Lake Rotoiti & The Mail Run from Picton
Steve drove us to Picton, via Lake Rotoiti where we enjoyed the views of the lake, eels and black swans.
In Picton we boarded the mail boat which wounds its way up the Queen Charlotte Sounds delivering mail, groceries and hikers to homes and resorts along the way.
We stopped for a stretch at Historic Ship Cove/Meretoto. named by Captain James Cook in January 1770 when his ship the Endeavour anchored here to replenish supplies of food, water and wood.
We returned to Picton, picking up hikers along the way back.
